Completed Projects by the Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library are a dedicated group of volunteers and donors who have made a lasting impact on our community through their generous support. Here are some of the projects they’ve helped bring to life:
Capital Improvement Campaign:
New roof, replaced windows to match original, various safety and service improvements (internet access), on-line catalog and numerous repairs: (1999/2000) $164,000
Land Purchase: Purchased the Lot and building at 112 N. 2nd: (2000) $110,000
Library Expansion: Raised funds for the 6000 sq. ft expansion (no tax money), oversaw the design and construction of the facility, installed a new elevator and rearranged the interior of the library (2000,2005) $1,873,310
Boiler Replacement: Replaced the aging boiler (2013) $29,950
Reshingle Roof for Solar Panels: Solar Panels and installation purchased with a grant from Northwestern Energy (shingles were replaced so they have a same lifetime as the solar panels) (2016) $1,175
Outfit Bookmobile: Outfitted van interior to function as a bookmobile plus a decorative wrap for the exterior ($1000 was awarded to the winning artist for the wrap design) (2019) $22,750
Expand Access to Electronic Materials: Access to downloaded materials expanded in response to Covid-19 closure (2020) $10,690 Give-a-Hoot fundraiser
Swap Children's and Junior's Sections: Renovate children’s and junior sections with new paint, carpet and shelving (2021) $67,535 Give-a-Hoot plus Extra donations
New Furniture and Study Spaces: Replaced 20 year old chairs and added tables (2022) $22,729 Give-a-Hoot
Install Audio-Visual Equipment: Audio-Visual equipment added to the Bev Stevenson meeting room, the teen and tutoring rooms and other areas in the library (2023) $28,621 Give-a-Hoot
Carpet Replacement: Replaced the carpet on the main floor, the mezzanine and in the 3rd street lobby: (2024) $37,395 Give-a-Hoot
Fund New Community Meeting Spaces: Funds raised for the construction of small meeting rooms in the library (2024) $37,395 Give-a-Hoot
Fund the Collection Budget: Funds to cover the entire collection budget to offset the cost of the foundation repairs: (2025) $60,580 Give-a-Hoot
Book Sales: Books Sales net proceeds used to add to the collection (1999-2024) $132,496

In addition to the major projects there are many regular items funded by the Friends, such as the summer interns, the summer reading programs, and periodical subscriptions. Other items that have been funded irregularly are computer (desk top and laptop) and other tech purchases, break room and office furniture, book carts, etc.
